We'll Miss you Grandpa!

On Tuesday September 22nd at 9:20am at the age of 92 years my Grandpa John G. Olson passed away surrounded by family. Grandpa lived an amazing, adventurous life! He served a mission in Sweden, was a veteran of World War II, taught biology, raised six daughters, lost his wife Edith Johnson in a tragic car accident, remarried Cleo Griffin, built houses, wrote books, planted gardens, led hikes up Peakey Mtn, had famous family reunions at his home in Idaho where he entertained over 50 grandchildren, made quilts (over 700 of them), but most importantly he loved with all his heart and made the world a better place for it. Grandpa lived a full and vivid life, he made all around him smile and laugh! Grandpa will be so greatly missed. I take comfort though knowing he is with his wife and family who passed away before him. What an amazing and wonderful feeling to know I can see my Grandpa again! I love you so much and will miss you everyday!

Happy Birthday Mom!

I just wanted to wish my mother-in-law Sharon (who I lovingly call Mommy D.) a very Happy Birthday! Mommy D. is the freakin greatest mother-in-law period! Since the first time we met back in October 2005 she has always been very easy to talk to. She has such a huge heart and she can't help but make you feel better about any situation or trail you are going through. I don't know where Matt and I would be without her support and I can't thank her enough! I love you Mommy D. and hope you have a fantastic birthday and you get spoiled like crazy!

Seriously who doesn't like pie?!

On Saturday (Sept 12th) Matt and I had the opportunity to hang out with our buds Kathy and her hubby Greg and we had a blast! They are seriously the most down-to-earth people you will ever meet and we love spending time with them!

We headed over to their new place (which is so stinkin cute!) and had dinner. Kathy made sandwiches on delicious focaccia bread (you need to get me the recipe chica!) and Matt and I brought dessert. Since it's late summer and peaches right now are so juicy and yummy I decided to try peach pie (my first time ever!). I made the crust from scratch and used fresh peaches and I think it turned out pretty tasty! I decided to document my attempt and here it goes...

After I made some crust and left it chill for 30 mins...

...I rolled it out...

...and then placed in the baking dish.

Voila!

Next I added the peaches and lattice and crimped the edges.

I added a little cinnamon and sugar and baked for about an hour.

And the final product! We served it with ice cream and I think everyone seemed to like it, you can't go wrong with fresh peach pie though!

Just a little stroll...

On Thursday (Sept. 10th) Matt and I decided to take a walk up this neat trail in Provo Canyon and decided to take a couple photos along the way...

Matt at the beginning of the trail sporting his transition glasses, which I might say have come in really handy!

Right after we crossed the mini-golden gate bridge (which I just barely decided to name it, lol)

Just taking another pic, here you can see how the trail is divided up for bikers and walkers...oh and a couple of longboarders though they don't really have a lane, crazy longboarders! ;)

If you look up towards the top of this picture you can see a little black square, when there is run off water comes rushing out of there and cascading down the cliff and it's pretty stinkin awesome! When my bud Kathy and I went up here in June (or May) there was a huge waterfall here and it was pretty breathtaking!

The best part of the walk? Cheesy as it is just spending an evening with Matt was more then I could ask for, I love ya babe!
